<h4 class="subsection">6.1.5 Commas in <code>FORMAT</code> specifications</h4>
<p>To support legacy codes, GNU Fortran allows the comma separator
to be omitted immediately before and after character string edit
descriptors in <code>FORMAT</code> statements.
